Movie Review: “Old Fashioned”

Old fashioned

I had the sweetest opportunity to catch a screening of the movie Old Fashioned

(Pictures above are from the website noted below)

Director: Rik Swartzwelder
Leading Actors: Rik Swartzwelder (Clay Walsh) & Elizabeth Ann Roberts (Amber Hewson)
Release Date: February 14, 2015
Synopsis: A young guy by the name of Clay Walsh was known for being a player in a small town changes his life and lives for God. The only thing about Clay living for God is outrageous ideas for love and relationships. He meets a young woman, Amber Hewson, who is opposite of him, much more relaxed and free-spirited. They cross paths due to her renting an apartment at his furniture shop and fall for each other. The two must overcome the challenges of courting and moving past previous hurts.

My Thoughts: This is a great movie to foster discussion about Godly (dating) relationships through courtship. It totally goes against the current in defining what love looks like. There is one word and phrase that comes to mind about this film.
One Word: Standard
God calls us to live to His standard, and how it’s carried out may vary from one person to the next. It’s just like a math problem, there are many ways to get to the same answer.
Love God’s way truly is romantic. I mean what woman doesn’t want to be loved by a man who honors her physically, emotionally and spiritually….Talk about being swept off your feet. This movie captures the beauty that living by God’s standard is exciting and lovely.
If you’re anything like me you are skeptical of Christian movies as they tend to be cheesy, “low-budget” and lacking appeal. However I think you’d find this movie to be funny, sweet and well done.
One phrase: “Love is patient”
In a world where instant gratification is greatly encouraged this movie shows the benefit of waiting to give yourself emotionally and physically. I could go on and on, but the main intent of this writing is to encourage you to go. Take your friends, children, small group, middles school and high school friends.
My guess is for the movie to generate talk amongst the Christian community about living out our faith in our relationships. You should check it out and tell me what you think!
